Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
